MATTY Robson is confident Saturday's disappointing display at Oldham was a one-off.

The teenage left-back is back in the Hartlepool United side after Hugh Robertson was ruled out with a foot injury.

Robson gave a man of the match display in his first start of the season at home to Barnsley.

But he saw the other side of the coin last Saturday at Oldham, when he was given an unhappy time by former Pool loan signing Kevin Betsy.

With the Pool squad affected by injuries this season, Robson has been given his chance and is determined to make the most of it.

He admitted: "It was frustrating to be out the side, but I'm old enough to cope with it and I know the reasons why Hugh was brought in.

"When I am given a chance, it is up to me to take it with both hands.

"The gaffer wanted some experience in this position and he brought someone in who has it.

"Everyone can see what a good footballer he is.

"He always has time on the ball and uses it well.

"Hugh is a very good player and he has helped me with my game. It's unfortunate he has been injured, but that has given me an opportunity.''

Robson was one of eight Pool players to have come through the youth ranks who featured in Saturday's defeat.

And he admitted that seeing so many juniors progress can only be good for the long-term benefits.

"Andy Appleby has been training with the first team for a few weeks and has been flying - he has never looked out of place,'' said Robson.

"The gaffer isn't scared to give people a chance and it's great to have so many young lads coming through. "It gives you something to play for.''

Pool, without a reserve game this week, arranged a full-scale practice game yesterday to try to help Micky Barron and Mark Tinkler back to fitness.

Tinkler returned on Saturday after missing three games with an Achilles injury, while Barron has yet to play this season after a second hernia operation.
