A SCHEME where people exchange skills instead of money will be launched in Richmondshire next month.
One hour of help to another member of the Richmondshire Time Bank initiative will earn one time credit.
This credit can then be spent on the services and skills offered by other members.
Organiser Sue Holden said: "Time banking serves as a kind of community glue, linking resources within our community with those who can best use them.
"Everyone's contribution is welcomed and everyone's skills are valued equally.
"One hour earns one time credit, regardless of the type of task.
"When you want a task done, you contact the time broker who acts as an intermediary and arranges for an appropriate member to come and help you."
The scheme will be launched in Richmond Town Hall, on Saturday, October 8, at 2pm to 5pm, by the town's mayor, Russell Lord.
Guest speakers will explain the history of time banking and guests will receive four free time credits.
These can be spent during the afternoon on taster sessions, including reflexology, massages, juggling lessons and face painting.
Anyone interested in helping the development of the time bank scheme, or who can offer a 15-minute taster session, is asked to call Ms Holden on (01748) 825732.
