A WRITERS' group that almost folded two years ago has published its first anthology.
Wordweavers, in South Moor, Stanley, was nearly disbanded due to a lack of interest.
But an appeal for new members through The Northern Echo, led to its renaissance. At the end of this month, it will launch Tapestry, a collection of poetry and prose.
The initial run of 300 copies was funded with a grant of £925 from Stanley Green Corridor Neighbourhood Partnership.
Wordweavers member Helen Steel, of Pentlands Terrace, Stanley, said: "We were down to a handful of members and struggling to keep the group going. Since the publicity in The Northern Echo, we have got a lot more members."
The book launch will take place in South Moor Library on Thursday, September 30, at 7pm when local singer George Taylor will perform. Admission is £2.
Wordweavers meets tonight in the Arch Club at the top of South Moor Bank, from 7pm to 9pm.
