A NEW member has scooped a club record at a Butterknowle leek club's annual show.
David Walton was awarded the champion leek grower prize at the Royal Oak's fifth annual show, with a stand of 200.64 cubic inches, a new club record. One of the winning pair of leeks also earned him a trophy for the best leek in show.
The bad weather this summer did not seem to affect the produce and judge Derek Cooper praised the entrants.
An auction of produce raised £300.50 for Butterknowle School. Headmaster Paul Ruane thanked the club.
The Bob Snowdon Memorial Trophy for most points in the vegetable section was won by Audrey Wigham, and the Castle Eden Brewery Shield for most points in the flower section was won by Maureen Blackburn.
