A languages programme is being launched for adult learners.
North Yorkshire County Council is offering courses in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Greek, Russian and Urdu as part of its 2004-05 schedule.
County councillor Jim Clark, executive member for lifelong learning, said: "The language programmes delivered through Community Education are for adult learners across North Yorkshire, many of whom have achieved A and A*, which is an incredible achievement as most of these learners have not been involved in formal education for a very long time."
Councillor Jan Marshall from Thirsk has contributed to the success story by gaining an A grade in film studies.
She said: "Even though the course was demanding, it was extremely fulfilling and gave me a great sense of achievement when I received my A grade result."
Anyone who would like to find out about courses can contact their local school or Patricia Hughes at North Yorkshire County Council on (01609) 780780.
