HUNDREDS of jobseekers set themselves on the path to work yesterday when they met employers at Auckland Castle.
Jobcentre Plus teamed up with the Wear Valley Action Team for Jobs and Job Brokers for a fair offering work opportunities and advice.
Employers hailed the event a huge success. Manufacturing companies were among those looking to fill permanent posts while others, including high street store chains, were recruiting for the Christmas period.
Margaret Elliott, group personnel director for dehumidifier makers Ebac, said: "We have definitely seen people we are interested in taking on.
"We are looking to grow from 380 employees to 410, so we do have opportunities to offer.
"The fact that people are here means they are committed to finding work.
"We are very enthusiastic about the event. It has been good for us."
Bishop Auckland MP Derek Foster, who opened the event, said: "This was a wonderful opportunity to bring together major employers and people looking for work."
