A DOZEN mothers who drew on their experiences of depression and post-natal illness to design leaflets for other parents have been recognised for their achievements.
The women and their families were the guests of honour at a celebration in Hartlepool, where they were presented with certificates by Angela Hawkes, the chief executive of Hartlepool Primary Care Trust (PCT).
The leaflet project was part of a Writing for Meaning course at the town's three SureStart centres and because it is accredited by TROCN -the open college network -can count towards a qualification.
The leaflets cover issues chosen by the women and contain factual information, personal experiences and contact details to help other families.
Representatives from partners in the project including SureStart, the PCT and Hartlepool Adult Education also attended the ceremony.
SureStart health development worker Sarit Carlebach said: "Choosing the content, designing and producing the leaflets has a been a great team effort.
"The ladies have really put a lot into it, producing leaflets that are interesting and informative and will help other families."
The second series of courses in the project will start this month. A six-week course will begin at Owton Manor Community Centre on Friday, from 9am to noon, while a 20-week course at St John Vianny Early Years Centre will start next Saturday, from 1pm to 3pm. To enrol, call (01429) 231248.
