MORE than £70,000 will be spent on flood alleviation studies in villages around Scarborough.
Homes in the Cayton, Burniston, Cloughton, Scalby and Newby areas were flooded in 2002, and the Government will be asked to fund a study by Scarborough Council.
The council said the areas to be investigated are becks at Burniston and Cloughton, where 27 homes are at risk, Church Beck, Scalby, where 35 properties are at risk, and Newby watercourse, where 63 homes are in danger.
