Crook Town manager Alan Oliver has appealed for plenty of support as his side hopes to continue its FA Cup run when they take on Glasshoughton at the Millfield.

Crook equalled a club record of five straight league wins since the start of the season last week, and enter the game full of confidence.

"We're hoping for a good turnout," said Oliver. "We might have started the season well, but so have Glasshoughton, because they're third in the Northern Counties East League.

"So we could do with a good crowd behind us."

Crook had a crowd of around 300 for their replay in the last round against Consett, and are hoping to beat that figure.

New signing Lee Ellison is ineligible having already played for Shildon, while striker Andrew Shaw is suspended. Defender Simon Rogers returns to the squad.

Shildon beat a couple of UniBond clubs last year on their way to the first round, and today they're at home to Woodley Sports from the UniBond First Division.

Manager Ray Gowan said: "It is absolutely essential to get a good result. I've watched Woodley twice, and they're no better than Frickley and Stocksbridge were last season."

Spennymoor have a tricky home game against Fleetwood, who are top of the North West Counties League. having scored an average of three goals per game.

Billingham Synthonia are hoping for a giantkilling against Whitby Town, who reached the first round proper last season, and they will give fitness tests to Michael Cater and Craig Perry.

Caretaker manager Dave Logan will be in charge of Whitby, with two wins in the last three games under his belt.

Billingham Town manager Alan Robinson watched his team's opponents, Ossett Town, in midweek action. He includes new signing Stuart Brightwell from Durham in the starting line up, but midfielder Jason Ainsley is struggling because of injury.

Brandon are at home to Liversedge, who beat Newcastle Blue Star two rounds ago.

Whitley Bay are at UniBond League club Brigg Town, who they beat on their way to the FA Vase final three years ago. Whitley manager Ian Chandler, who scored against Brigg, could include himself in the starting line up.

Dunston go across to Manchester to take on Flixton, and they will be without suspended striker Michael Pitt, while Ben Thompson and Danny Shore will both have fitness tests.

Horden, who had an excellent victory against Telford in the last round, are at home to Warrington, another UniBond club.

In the all Northern League games, West Auckland are at home to Ashington, while Esh Winning go to Thornaby.

l Consett manager Ray Lish knows his team has a very important game against Jarrow Roofing in the Albany Northern League this afternoon.

Both sides are at the wrong end of the First Division, and Lish said: "It's a massive game for us, even at this stage of the season.

"We haven't been playing badly recently, but our problem is that we can't score goals."

Leaders Benfield Saints, who are seven points clear, play their tenth away game of the season at Bedlington and expect to be unchanged. Saints have yet to draw a blank in matches this season.

Tow Law's newly found confidence will be tested when they go to Durham City. Striker Lee Innes will be missing, but midfielder Dave Hunter could return after injury.

Durham, who are second on goal difference, will give fitness tests to John Watson, Glen Robson and Stephen Stewart.

Peterlee, unbeaten in their six games so far take their record to Chester-le-Street.

Guisborough who are sixth from bottom, go to Morpeth. In the second division, joint leaders Newcastle Blue Star can open a lead at the top of the table if they win at Prudhoe.

l Darlington RA manager Dave Woodcock claims Gateshead Reserves will be an unknown quantity when they visit Brinkburn Road this afternoon, writes MALCOLM PRATT.

"They've only played one game which was on the opening day of the season so I don't know what to expect. It's like when we joined the league and our opponents were wondering how we would cope," he declared.

RA are without recent signing Warren Burn who scored four goals in his first couple of games. "It's unfortunate and a disappointment since he has really adapted after playing for Shildon in the Albany Northern League last season,'' added Woodcock.

Also absent are Stephen Bell and Martin Brown.

Leaders Stokesley SC face a difficult test at Boldon CA where they will be without striker Jonathan Newton and Robert Donnelly. Paul Leach who played last season, is included in a squad of 16.

The game of the day is between Birtley Town and Coxhoe Athletic. "They have surprised a few people but we are looking for three wins on the bounce and the only absentee is Anthony Lynch," said Birtley boss Dave Smith.

His opposite number Gary Forrest, delighted with the start his side has made, reports that both Gary O'Hara and Dean Smithson cannot play.
