A CHANGE of venue proved to be a good move for one of the final agricultural shows of the season.

This year's Eggleston Show was one of the best organisers can remember with a massive crowd enjoying the new site at Streatlam Farm.

The show committee transfered the event out of its home village for the first time in nearly 130 years when the previous showfield at High Shipley became too small.

But they are adamant it will retain the Eggleston Show title.

Secretary George Lawson said: "It will always be Eggleston Show - we are only two miles away as the crow flies and we still have the same people who come every year.

"This show was one of the best in recent years. It was brilliant. Everybody was happy with the new site and we had a good crowd and good entries.

"We had to move because we couldn't get everything we wanted on the old site and it has been a good decision."

The show was held at High Shipley for 30 years after moving from The Haughs when the Tyne-Tees water tunnel was built.
