PLANS for a new wind farm in the region go on display this week.
EDF Energy is unveiling proposals for up to four turbines at Langley, close to Burnhope, near Stanley, County Durham.
While the company has yet to apply for planning app-roval, the plans show turbines standing 102 metres from ground level to blade tip.
If all four go ahead, the site would provide enough power for 6,650 homes a year, and reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by 24,800 tonnes. The proposals will be on display at a public exhibition in Woodview Community Centre, Langley Park, near Durham, on Thursday, from 11am to 8pm, in the first stage of a lengthy consultation process.
After the exhibition, the company will begin work on an environmental impact assessment, an exhaustive document looking at the potential impact of a wind farm, from the effect on local wildlife to its visual impact and traffic issues.
A second public exhibition will be held after the study and the submission of the planning application.
A spokesman for EDF said: "If people do have concerns, we really want to know about them and will answer any questions they have got.
"This is a consultation process after all, and has to work two ways."
The company already operates similar sites in High Hedleyhope, near Tow Law, and Kirkheaton, in North-umberland.
