A SCOUT group has been given European funding of £500 to provide a fireworks display for its Bonfire Night fundraising efforts.
The grant will go towards the £2,250 it is paying for fireworks being set off by a professional team at Barnard Castle.
Scoutmaster Colin Clarke said: "We are delighted to get this backing as it can be risky to spend so much. Money can be lost if the weather is bad.
"We have received bonfire night grants before, but this is the first time we have been given European funding. It has come through the Government Office for the North East and Teesdale District Council."
The event is being held at Startforth Hall on Thursday November 4 from 6.30pm.
Family tickets admitting two adults and three children are on sale for £10 at Castle News and Evans News in the town.
