A TEENAGER on the run from the law was caught when his uncle was stopped for speeding, a court was told.

Magistrates heard how traffic police pulled over Stephen MacDonald's uncle for speeding and carried out checks on MacDonald, 19.

They discovered that there was a warrant out for him, issued after he skipped bail last Tuesday.

MacDonald, of Princess Road, Ripon, spent most of the weekend at Hull Prison, and was brought before magistrates to answer five charges.

He denied threatening to kill former girlfriend Chantelle Moore and also denied assaulting her.

He admitted threatening to smash windows at her Ripon home and pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to answer bail.

Court chairman Katherine Nickols adjourned the first three charges until October 5 and granted him conditional bail. Mrs Nickols told MacDonald that the fact he had spent most of the weekend in Hull Prison was considered sufficient punishment for the bail offences.

Geoffrey Rogers, defending, said it had been MacDonald's first taste of life in prison and "he did not like it one bit".

He added that MacDonald had a row with his mother and went to stay with an uncle in Darlington, missing a court date three days later.
