north Durham residents are being urged to have their say on how to develop community nursing services.

Derwentside Primary Care Trust is holding two public consultation events next month, to give people the chance to comment on its proposed nursing strategy.

Helen Tucker, the trust's director of operational services and clinical governance, and its head nurse, said: "We would like to find out what local people think of our ideas for developing nursing services.

"We realise that community nursing services need to change in line with the modernisation of the NHS, so that we can provide high qua- lity services that meet the needs of local people."

The events follow the success of a similar consultation in June, when patients asked for better access to services on bank holidays and weekends.

They also wanted more information on how to contact community nurses, and better partnership working between the NHS and social services.

Services provided by the trust include practice nurses, school, dental, specialist and district nurses, and health visitors.

The consultations are at the Lamplight Arts Centre, Stanley, on Wednesday, October 13, at 2pm, and Consett Civic Centre on Thursday, October 21, at 6pm. For details, call Wendy Marley at the trust on (01207) 594458.
