STUDENTS from Ferryhill will be meeting people from across the world as part of a global project.
Ferryhill Business and Enterprise College has been accepted by the British Council to work towards the International School Award.
For the past two weeks, students and staff have been learning about life in Hungary and China from visitors to the school.
People from other countries are due to visit the school during the year, and some Ferryhill students will go to the Czech Republic to start planning an international conference for 40 students in the town next summer.
Students will learn how the European Union impacts on economies, lifestyle and jobs by working with students from the Czech Republic, Spain and Austria.
A further group of students will have the chance to run a company that will trade with a school in Spain, to learn about import and export.
Ferryhill is one of five schools in the country chosen for a project that links with Australia and South Africa.
A school spokesman said: "All of these activities aim to widen the outlook of students in a world that seems to be shrinking and to give a positive experience of getting to know people of different backgrounds and cultures."
