THREE north Durham charities have received a cash boost following a golf day.
The event, organised by the Rotary clubs of Consett and Derwentside, took place at Consett's golf club earlier this month.
More than 70 golfers took part, representing more than 30 local businesses, and Syd Howarth, North-East district governor for Rotary, officially started the competition.
The overall winners were Ian Teeder and Michael Livermore, with 46 points, who nominated Medomsley and The Dene Community Centre to receive a pool table donated by Frankland Prison Industry.
Twenty-eight businesses sponsored the event, including EW Motor Services of Consett, which put up a £15,000 MG Rover car for anyone who could make a hole in one at the sixth. No one managed the feat.
Others who backed the event included pie manufacturer Tindale and Stanton, Eldiss Transport and Gary Hall Windows.
Most of the £3,000 raised at the event went to Willowburn Hospice in Maiden Law, near Lanchester.
A further £300 was presented to the Consett Golf Club captain's nominated charity, Villa Real School, in Consett.
