NEW Blackburn Rovers boss Mark Hughes has put Jemal Johnson's protracted loan move to Darlington on hold.
Hughes watched from the stands as Johnson scored in Rovers' Lancashire Cup defeat at the hands of Blackpool on Tuesday night.
And now Hughes - who succeeded Graeme Souness as Rovers boss last week - is keen to take a closer look at the highly-rated American.
Despite reaching an agreement with Rovers last week, Quakers boss David Hodgson was last night informed that the New Jersey-born 20-year-old will remain at Ewood Park for at least another week.
"It's unfortunate but something we have to accept," said Hodgson.
"He did well for Blackburn the other night, so it's understandable the new manager wants to have a good look at him. We will just have to wait and see."
Hodgson will continue to keep tabs on Johnson, while considering two other alternatives.
Meanwhile, defender Joey Hutchinson will discover the full extent of his knee injury today. The 22-year-old faces at least a month on the sidelines after jarring his knee in the 1-1 draw at Rochdale 11 days ago.
Despite the injury, defender David McGurk will not be recalled from his loan spell at York City.
With no reserve game this week, Quakers drew 1-1 with Queen of the South in a behind-closed-doors game at the Williamson Motors Stadium yesterday.
Quakers will entertain South Shields in the Durham Challenge Cup next Wednesday, kick-off 7.30pm. Admission prices are £3 adults and £1 concessions.
Actors from Coronation Street, Hollyoaks and Holby City will take on a team of former Quakers stars next month to raise money for the Percy Hedley Foundation, a school for the physically disabled.
Jim Platt, Mark Forster, Kevan Smith, David Speedie, Phil Brumwell, Adam Reed and former Middlesbrough player Terry Cochrane have all agreed to play in the game, which has been arranged in conjunction with Paul Hodgson, Ian Carter and the Darlington Supporters' Trust.
The game will take place at Northallerton Town Football Club on October 10.
Kick-off will be at 1.30pm and tickets, priced £5 for adults and £1 for children, are available via email from paul. hodgson1000@ntlworld.
