THE first ever Salvation Army band marks a milestone anniversary this weekend.
Consett was the first corps to establish a band, and it is celebrating its 125th birthday this year.
It was set up by Ned Lennox, who taught the first musicians from his home in Puddler's Row, near the Berry Edge steel works.
An exhibition of the band's history is on display in the Salvation Army Hall in Sherburn Terrace, Consett, until this Saturday.
There will be performances by the present day band and Consett Junior Brass, at 11am each day. The Army band will also give a concert at the Empire Theatre in Consett on Saturday, at 7pm, and lead two services in the Salvation Army Hall on Sunday, at 10am and 3.30pm.
