A BAKERY supplying a famous tea room has won two honours at an industry awards ceremony.
Bettys Craft Bakery won Craft Bakery of the Year at this year's Baking Industry Awards, and 20-year-old Joanne Sanderson was Young Baker of the Year.
The bakery, at Plumpton Park, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, beat competition from 60 entrants across the country to take the award.
The 80 bakers, confectioners and chocolatiers make more than 600 specialities for the five Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms in Harrogate, York, Northallerton and Ilkley.
Ms Sanderson took her title ahead of hundreds of hopefuls. She joined the bakery four years ago as an apprentice after she spent a week with the company on work experience.
Bakery manager Caroline Grant was delighted with the awards. She said: "Our craft bakery is the only one of its kind in Britain. The Craft Bakery of the Year award is a tribute to the hard work of the team here.
"And of course, we are all thrilled for Joanne. She is a great ambassador, not just for Bettys, but for the baking industry as a whole."
