A COUPLE have won a coveted accolade through their efforts developing their fish and chip business.
It is two years ago this weekend since Sharon Peel and partner Stephen Threlfall took over Coxhoe Fish Bar, in County Durham.
The couple have learned they are among the top five fish and chip shops in the North in the annual Sea Fish industry awards.
It follows the recommendation of customers, the approval of a mystery shopper and a successful follow-up inspection.
Despite limited experience, the couple, backed by family and friends, overhauled the premises, in Blackgate East, Coxhoe.
Ms Peel said she has stuck to the ethos that she only serves food that she would expect to be served herself.
"We don't fry masses and masses, and never have a fish sit there soggy. Customers are willing to wait because they know it has been freshly fried.
"If I have fish left over at night, I will throw them out rather than just remove the batter and re-fry them."
