DARLINGTON Borough Council's cabinet has agreed to release £238,321 to improve a green area on the Firthmoor estate.
Holgate Moore Green will be improved under the Doorstep Green project.
The initiative attracts funding for under-used areas where residents can have a say on its future.
Play provision for children will be extended as part of the scheme, and a sensory garden will be created.
Maintenance costs for the next ten years will be paid for with £76,926 provided by the developers of the Moorfield housing development on the estate.
At a council cabinet meeting, Councillor Lee Vasey said: "We have seen a huge difference over the past few years on the estate and I feel the changes are making people's lives better. This is the icing on the cake to me."
