DARLINGTON Borough Council has agreed to set aside £263,000 to ensure road surfaces are safe for motorists and pedestrians during the winter season, from October 1 to April 30.
The council's cabinet has agreed to distribute a publicity leaflet that will detail the authority's winter services.
The pamphlet will show the routes that are to be gritted and give advice on safe driving.
Plans are also being drawn up to cope with icy conditions affecting shoppers in the town centre.
