WOMEN are being urged to keep their cars locked while they are driving, following a number of bag thefts on Teesside.
Two women motorists have had their bags stolen by thieves riding past on a scooter.
Two men rode up to a car that had stopped at traffic lights on Mitchell Avenue, Thornaby, and one of them opened the front passenger door, snatching a handbag from the seat.
Ten minutes later, the same pair pounced as a woman was parking her car at Morrisons supermarket, at Teesside Park, Thornaby, taking her handbag from the passenger seat.
Detective Sergeant Guy Newnam, of Stockton CID, said: "We would urge drivers always to be aware of this kind of incident, especially ladies driving alone.
"Be especially cautious when you car is stationary in a queue at traffic lights, or if you are parking your car. Keep locks down at traffic lights and bags out of sight. Don't be afraid to sound your horn; it can act as a deterrent."
The scooter's registration is L45 JDC. Anyone with information is asked to contact Stockton CID on (01642) 302226.
