GARDENERS battled it out to determine Darlington's best leek-grower over the weekend.
The Champion of Champions' Leek Show was held at Darlington Working Men's Club (WMC) on Saturday and yesterday.
Now in its 57th year, it included clubs from Darlington, East End, Cockerton, Harrowgate and Hopetown.
There were categories for pot, trench and intermediate leeks.
John Lawson, of Harrowgate WMC, had the biggest leek, which measured 234 cubic inches.
Show secretary Colin McKenzie said: "It is not a record, but it is a big one.
"It has been going on 57 years, so it is a bit of a tradition in the town. The atmosphere is great and we all have a drink and a laugh.
"We would like to thank the show sponsors, Glenwood Panes and ESS Security Systems, for their support."
John Lawson won the pot and intermediate section, while Brian Stubbs, of Cockerton WMC, won the trench section.
