ROCK band Freerunner have taken a step towards stardom after winning Revolution Big Chance, The Northern Echo's music competition.
They gave an energetic performance to a sell-out crowd at The Forum Music Centre, in Darlington, on Friday.
The group had worthy opponents in the form of Ask My Cat, Jamie Sample and The Modes.
Freerunner are Robert Thomas, Michael Thomas and Martin Jacobs.
Robert said: "It's been an excellent contest, and it wouldn't have been anything without the other finalists."
The judges were Sean Leonard, Revolution web editor, Ron Musgrove, of Music Zone, Neil Walker, of Arc Unsigned, Jennifer Laycock, of The Forum, and Matt Emmerson, of TFM Radio.
They said their task was difficult but Freerunner had great energy and an edge.
The contest, presented with TFM Radio, aims to find the best unsigned act in the region.
Freerunner will receive four days in the Sanity Multimedia recording studio, in Stockton, 100 pressed CDs, artwork and money towards printing.
Artwork for the the CD will be created by Middlesbrough advertising agency House of Type.
The sponsors were Music Zone, Blackett Hart and Pratt, Fourth Chamber, and Direct Clothes.
Sheelagh Caygill, digital media editor at The Northern Echo, said: "The Big Chance is now an established part of the region's music scene. It's great to see music website Revolution helping musicians.
"The event wouldn't be possible without our sponsors and The Forum Music Centre."
