YEAR nine students at a Darlington school are now studying for the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).
Hurworth Maths and Computing College is the first in the borough to provide the course, which is an adult qualification that is recognised across Europe as demonstrating a level of proficiency with a range of computer skills.
A school spokesman said: "Because we are a specialist school in maths and computing, 25 students have been afforded this fantastic opportunity to gain the valuable qualification a year before starting GCSE. The ECDL is recognised by employers across Europe, and is frequently studied by adults wanting to gain ICT qualifications."
The course is being held after school on Mondays and is supported by a tutor from Darlington College of Technology.
