A drop-in service will open today to provide information and advice on cancer.
Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service was launched at the beginning of the year to establish a community-based service to anyone living in the district whether or not they are affected by the illness.
The service, is based at Peterlee Day Centre, but is holding drop-in-sessions in the district. A session will be held at Seaham Library today between 9.30am and 12.30pm.
Residents have been invited to call in and chat to David Shepherd, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Service manager, who can offer information or direct people to appropriate organisations according to their needs.
More drop-in sessions are to be arranged in the district but anyone wishing to make at appointment to see Mr Shepherd can contact him on 0191-518 4039.
Mr Shepherd said yesterday: "This is the start of a new and exciting service which will be available for district of Easington residents and I look forward to seeing people at the drop-in sessions.
"Plans are also well underway to open a cancer information and support centre in Peterlee, which will provide information together with support such as complementary therapies, counselling and benefits advice."
