A VOLUNTEER is to receive a thank-you for the 20 years of help and support she has provided to a hospital chapel.
Elsie Ainsworth, 63, from Thornaby will be singled out for praise during a presentation as part of a thanksgiving service during the harvest festival in the chapel, at the University Hospital of North Tees, Stockton, on Sunday.
Elsie has worked as a volunteer chapel assistant at the hospital for 20 years and aims to continue helping patients from the wards to the chapel for weekly services.
She said: "I began helping as a way of practising my religion and have always been keen to give something back.
"I find being able to help patients as rewarding as they do. It can be a great comfort to patients as well as a welcome change of environment from being on a ward.
"I am certainly looking forward to carrying on this role."
Anyone wishing to volunteer to help at the hospital can contact (01642) 624714.
