AN open day to launch Darlington's first extended schools scheme will be held next weekend.
The pioneering scheme will see Hummersknott School and Language College and Skerne Park Primary School providing more services for pupils, families and the wider community.
The borough council was awarded £261,000 by the Department for Education and Skills to launch the project and will be working with schools to enhance evening classes and community sports programmes.
Services such as adult learning, child care, parenting support, access to information technology and on-site health and social care will also be provided.
An open day at Hummersknott School from 10.30am until 3.30pm on Saturday next week, will launch the plans. Entry is free and there will be information for residents and children's entertainment.
Free buses will run between Skerne Park Primary and Hummersknott throughout the day.
