CAMPAIGNERS against plans to build 14 houses in Middleton St George are taking their protest to the Deputy Prime Minister.
Last week, the parish council commissioned a consultant to examine the planning application to build the homes within the grounds of Thorntree House, Middleton Lane.
Ward councillor and parish council chairman Doris Jones said that the consultant had agreed to object to the plans on the parish's behalf.
She said that the council and the consultant were writing to the Deputy Prime Minister asking for the plans to be called in.
Coun Jones said: "A petition is also going around the village. There are already about 500 names on it opposing the plans. No-one is in favour of it and many people feel very strongly against it."
Varying designs are proposed in the plans, including detached and terrace houses.
The existing house would be retained but some trees which are protected by tree preservation orders would have to be removed
