TWO young brothers from Brompton enjoyed a second year of success after completing the Junior Great North Run on Sunday.
William Smith, eight, completed the 2-mile wheelchair race in 28 minutes, winning the second place trophy.
His brother Matthew, six, finished the -mile mini-run in seven minutes.
Their mother, Lisa Smith, said she was very proud of her sons' achievements.
Both boys attend Brompton School.
"They both trained hard and have done really well," she said. "We actually only found out four days before the event that the wheelchair course had been lengthened since last year, so William got a great time, considering he had only been training for a mile-long race."
William's performance at the race was noted by charity Get Kids Going, which expressed interest in securing him a special racing wheelchair to allow him to pursue his hobby.
Mrs Smith said: "William has got incredible power and did well in the race even though he was using his normal chair. He is hoping to enter more races, so having a proper racing chair would be fantastic."
