WORK has started in earnest for a team of volunteers sending aid to Romania.
In six weeks time the annual consignment of aid from the New Life for Romania team, in Northallerton, will leave for the towns of Aiud and Simeria.
This year is the tenth anniversary of the appeal organised by the town's New Life Baptist Church.
It provides humanitarian aid through family projects, food parcels, shoebox parcels and resources for schools.
Last year, 1,400 shoebox parcels were donated by schools, groups and churches and in the next six weeks nearly ten tonnes of items will be sorted and packed at The Granary, Thornton le Moor.
Appeal co-ordinator Janet Pentelow said: "Our contacts on the ground in Romania tell us that there is still a great depth of need and that our support is extremely welcome."
