TWO dog owners have been prosecuted by Ryedale District Council as part of a tough new policy.
The cases, heard at Whitby Magistrates' Court, resulted from work undertaken by the council's dog warden, Brian Dunn.
In the first case, a postwoman was attacked by a dog at a house near Amotherby. The court imposed a control order on the dog owner, who was ordered to pay court costs of £50.
The second case was against a West Lutton resident who failed to clean up after her dog. She was fined £65 and ordered to pay court costs of £50.
Mr Dunn said: "We provide as much help and advice as we can to dog owners. We have provided dog waste bins in the majority of towns and villages throughout the district, but we still have some problems with irresponsible dog owners who do not control their pets."
