FIREFIGHTERS worked as car washers in the name of charity at the weekend.
Crew members from Middlesbrough, Saltburn and Grangetown raised money for the brigade's benevolent fund.
Each station in Britain is trying to raise £200 towards a new £2.5m national therapy centre for firefighters who have suffered injuries, and to to offer help for their families.
On Saturday, firefighters from the three stations went out washing members of the public's cars to raise their share of the cash.
Firefighters at Middlesbrough Station worked at Morrisons, in Berwick Hills, the Grangetown Station was open to the public for car washing and the Saltburn crews worked at Somerfield Supermarket car park, in their town.
Dave Hansford, Secretary for the Benevolent Fund, said: "Firefighters are heavily involved in community safety initiatives throughout the year, in addition to playing a vital role in the overall well-being of the towns and cities where they work and live.
"This event gave the general public the chance to show their appreciation for this along with the opportunity of having their vehicle cleaned by an enthusiastic band of firefighters, and all for a great cause."
