STARS from the soaps came to Teesside to help a hospice.
Martino Lazzeri, who played Alex in Hollyoaks, and Shane Conner, the builder Joe Scully from Neighbours, launched the project on behalf of Hartlepool Hospice.
They launched the Light Up A Life fundraising in a ceremony at the Historic Quay tourist attraction.
Members of the public are being asked to sponsor a Christmas light on the tree at the quay in memory of a loved one or friend. The lights will feature in a service of remembrance.
Tina Holroyd, hospice senior fundraiser, said the service would give people time to remember loved ones.
The opportunity was also open to families of people who had not used the hospice.
She said: "We are absolutely delighted that Martino and Shane have taken time out from their very busy schedule and planned performance at the Billingham Forum Theatre to support our campaign and would like to thank them for their kind support."
Those taking part in the campaign will receive a pin badge.
The names of loved ones will be entered in a Remembrance Book, which will be displayed at the service.
It will also be available to view in the chapel at the hospice afterwards.
Anyone interested should call the hospice on (01429) 855535.
