A MAN accused of shooting dead one police officer and trying to kill two others appeared in court yesterday.
David Bieber, 38, also known as Nathan Coleman, is accused of murdering PC Ian Broadhurst, 34, in Leeds, on Boxing Day, last year.
He is also said to have shot colleagues PC Neil Roper, 45, and PC James Banks, 26, during an incident in Leeds.
Mr Bieber, of Springwell Road, Leeds, denies one charge of murder and two of attempted murder.
Jurors at Newcastle Crown Court were told by trial judge Mr Justice Henriques that the case has already attracted a lot of media attention, but they were told to put anything they had seen, heard or read out of their minds.
No evidence was heard yesterday, but witnesses are expected to be called today.
Mr Bieber also denies possessing a 9mm self-loading pistol with intent to endanger life on December 31, last year.
He denies possessing 220 9mm bulleted pistol cartridges with intent to endanger life on December 31 and possessing 298 9mm bulleted pistol cartridges without a firearms certificate between December 26 and December 31, last year.
