STUDENTS are being given the chance to create their own version of television programme Robot Wars.
Redcar and Cleveland College has responded to the popularity of the show by introducing a course in design and robotics.
It is believed to be the only college offering the National Diploma in Engineering Level 3 in the region.
The full-time course, which is being run at the main college site in Corporation Road, Redcar, is project-based and students are undertaking continued assessments.
It is aimed at providing hands-on experience in working with the design and use of robotic systems.
During the course, first year students will be given the opportunity to go to Peat Rigg on the North Yorkshire Moors for a one-week team-building exercise.
Student Shane Reidy, said: "It really is an incredible course. It involves a lot of hands-on, practical work and I've learnt so much in the space of a few weeks. I'd recommend this course to anyone who is thinking of forging a career within the industry."
College principal Alan Old said: "Robotics continues to be a fast-growing area of engineering and this course provides an excellent insight into the sector.
"The content of the diploma is very challenging, which will appeal to many who are interested in the engineering industry. We are very proud to be the only college in the area to offer this programme."
