THE name of a military policeman killed in Iraq last year has been added to the war memorial in his home town.
About 60 people gathered at the memorial, outside All Saints Church in Northallerton, last Saturday for a dedication service.
Lance Corporal Ben Hyde, 23, died with five other military policemen in June 2003 in an ambush on a police station where they had been training local officers.
His father John Hyde said: "There has only been one year since the end of the second world war in 1945 that a British serviceman or woman hasn't been killed. All of those people deserve to have their names on a war memorial.
"We wanted to have his name on there in time for the last Remembrance Sunday but it just wasn't possible with all the things that needed to be done.
"It will certainly make Remembrance Sunday far more significant this year."
Northallerton also has a memorial seat for Lance Cpl Hyde.
