CHARITY workers are delighted with the response they received when they spent an appeal day at a supermarket.
Members of the New Life Baptist Church, in Northallerton, who co-ordinate the New Life for Romania appeal, were at Tesco, in Thirsk, on Saturday.
Shoppers were handed leaflets detailing items of food and household produce needed for the aid consignment being despatched to Romania in November. The list included pasta, tinned fruit and vegetables, cooking oil and toothpaste.
So many items were donated that it took three trips in the church minibus to take them to the packing base at Thornton-le-Moor.
Appeal co-ordinator Janet Pentelow said: "These items will make a tremendous difference for the Romanian families. The in-store appeal is now a vital part of the aid consignment we send out and we are very grateful to Tesco."
