DETECTIVES were scouring closed-circuit television footage after a suspected sighting of missing Darlington man Melvyn Gamblin.
A man contacted police after seeing someone who matched Mr Gamblin's description near Stanhope Park just after 10am last Friday.
Mr Gamblin, 37, travelled to Greece for the Olympic Games and was last seen by staff at his Athens hotel on Friday, September 3. He failed to board an easyJet flight back to the UK later that day.
His family are desperately worried about him, as he suffers from the debilitating condition ME and they fear he might have had a relapse or be in trouble.
Insp Alan Davidson, of Darlington police, said: "We have had a report of a possible sighting.
"It's unlikely that it was Mr Gamblin although the man's account is plausible and credible. It could well be it's someone of a similar description."
