TRADE unions have a vital role to play in ensuring multinational corporations meet the needs of the North-East, according to a new report.
The study, carried out by researchers from Northumbria University, suggests that trade union representatives, can persuade global companies to be more sensitive to regional development.
The report will be discussed today at a conference called European Works Councils: Building the Regional Dimension, at Kingston Park Stadium, Newcastle.
The study was commissioned by the Northern TUC, and supported by the European Commission.
TUC regional secretary, Kevin Rowan said: "Union representatives on European Works Councils in this region are helping to create a culture where the high road to success is the norm, and one that is rooted here in the North-East."
Speakers will include Mr Rowan and Stephen Hughes MEP.
