HUNDREDS of delegates are visiting the region for two national conferences looking at education and child welfare later this month.
Education Secretary Charles Clarke MP will address the Local Government Association's (LGA) annual Education Conference, in Gateshead, on Wednesday, October 20.
He will also speak at the joint LGA and Association of Directors of Social Services (ADSS) annual Social Services Conference, taking place the same day in Newcastle City Hall.
His dual presentation aims to reflect the closer working partnership between education and social services.
He will also look at the important role community leadership has to play in education and social care, and will assess the impact of both services working more closely.
The LGA education conference takes place on October 18 and 19, and features speeches from Tim Collins MP, Shadow Education Secretary, and Phil Willis MP, Liberal Democrat spokesman for Education and Skills.
The joint social services conference runs from October 18 to 20.
