AN MP is urging pensioners to take advantage of a scheme to help them financially.
Hugh Bayley, MP for the City of York, said more pensioners than ever were claiming pension Credit, but that more needed to sign up.
In York, more than 4,000 pensioner households receive an average of £36-a-week in Pension Credit, on top of their basic state pension.
Mr Bayley said the rise in claims was down to a more generous approach and an easier application process.
He said: "Pension Credit is making a difference to people's lives, but it is important that all who should be getting it do so."
