MORE than 120 homes are planned on the site of a former council estate.
Taylor Woodrow Developments will build 127 houses on land at Ewehurst Road, Flint Hill, near Stanley, County Durham.
Derwentside District Council's development control committee has granted planning permission.
But it has also ensured that the plans would be slightly altered, so the homes will be a reasonable distance from a single private housing being built at the western end of the site, next to Nicholson Buildings.
The committee also heard that the Environment Agency had no flooding concerns about the development.
The estate will be a mixture of terraced, detached and semi-detached properties, with three to five bedrooms.
Vehicle access to the estate will be taken from Ewehurst Road, and footpaths will be put in linking it with Flint Hill Bank and the B6168 road.
A hectare of grassland, used as a public amenity in the days of the old council estate, will be retained. The developer has contributed an undisclosed sum to help maintain it and will also pay £38,100 towards further play area provision in Derwentside.
