YOUNGSTERS from across the borough of Stockton will find out how local authorities operate when they take part in Local Democracy Week.
From today until Friday, a group of young people from Bede Sixth Form College will shadow councillors to see how the political system works and they will attend both Stockton Borough Council and cabinet meetings.
The youngsters involved are all studying Government and Politics at A-Level.
Local Democracy Week is a campaign that aims to encourage people to take an interest and get involved in the democratic process. It runs from October 18 to 24 but the council has planned events to run throughout the month
Councillors taking part in the work shadowing are Suzanne Fletcher, Maurice Frankland, Colin Leckonby, Ann McCoy and Stephen Parry.
An open day at Stockton Town Hall has also been planned for Wednesday, from 9.30am until noon. There will be guided tours every half hour with staff on hand to answer questions.
