A CLEAN-UP operation is taking place in South Bank along alleys where rubbish has been fly-tipped.
Two fines have been issued and a daily clean-up is being carried out as part of the operation, organised by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's community safety wardens, the Clean, Green and Safe Team and the South Bank Renewal Team.
Since April, the Renewal Team, whose nine-strong workforce is a partnership mix of council employees and The Guinness Trust, has removed 250 tonnes of rubbish from backyards and alleys.
Discarded items include beds, mattresses, fridges, cookers, general building material and dozens of black bags with household rubbish.
The council's cabinet member for community safety Councillor Joyce Benbow said: "This is a typical example of how Clean and Green, the community safety wardens and the Renewal Team can work together in partnership and get the desired results."
South Bank residents wanting to get rid of bulky waste items can ring the council's customer services on (0845) 6126126 to book a free collection.
