Wolviston left it late before clinching victory over Shotton Comrades in the Sunderland Shipowners' Cup on Saturday.
The tie was deep into injury time when Ian Bishop was up-ended in the box and Andy Steel converted the penalty.
After equalising early in the second period, Shotton dominated but their scoring efforts were capably dealt with by the Wolviston defence.
The visitors went ahead against the run of play after ten minutes. Scott Lawson delivered a great cross to the far post and Steel rose to power in a header.
Shotton deservedly levelled five minutes after the interval. A 25-yard shot from Lee Beeston evaded goalkeeper Alan Wigglesworth.
Stokesley SC progressed in the North Riding County Cup, defeating Old Malton St Mary's 4-2 after leading 3-0 at half-time. Adam Bramley struck a hat-trick and Nathan Haslam converted a penalty while Heath Brown and David Bradshaw replied.
Darlington RA took over at the top of the table when they defeated Cleadon SC on Friday night with the only goal by Warren Byrne and Coxhoe remain third behind Stokesley following a 4-1 victory over New Marske.
Andrew Soppitt gave Coxhoe the lead, only for Stephen Watson to claim an equaliser before the break. The home side then took charge and further goals flowed from Peter Croft, David Hutchinson and Andrew Richardson.

Goals were more plentiful for Boldon CA at home to Washington Nissan.
Michael Meek (2), David Hopper (2) and Craig Rolfe struck in a 5-2 victory. Martin Patterson and Richard Bland found the net for Nissan.
Two goals from John Grant earned Jarrow victory over Cleator Moor Celtic, despite an outstanding performance by the visitors' goalkeeper Craig Devine.
