THE Tees, East and North Yorkshire Ambulance Service (Tenyas) has appointed a new medical director.
Dr Irving Cobden trained in Newcastle and Leeds before becoming a consultant physician with an interest in gastroenterology at North Tyneside Hospitals in 1985.
He has held several educational and managerial posts and became Northumbria Healthcare Trust's medical director in 1998.
In 2002, he joined the new national Intensive Support Programme for Emergency Care.
He said: "During this work, I became convinced about the pivotal role of the ambulance service and its staff in solving many of the difficulties facing emergency care networks."
He said Tenyas' vision and links with academia attracted him to his new post.
The father-of-five said: "Throughout my career, I have been a firm believer in breaking down barriers and challenging traditional roles, in order to train and empower people to their full potential in delivering healthcare.
