police investigators are appealing for witnesses to a road accident which left a motorcyclist badly hurt at the weekend.
A biker was travelling on Lodge Lane, near Preston-le-Skerne, Newton Aycliffe, when the accident happened shortly after 7pm on Sunday.
He was travelling east along the road when the vehicle went out of control on a left-hand bend and the motorcyclist and his pillion passenger were both thrown off.
The rider, a 39-year-old man from Newton Aycliffe, was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital then transferred to the intensive care unit at Newcastle General Hospital with serious head injuries.
The passenger, a 35-year-old woman from Newton Aycliffe, went to Darlington Memorial Hospital with a fractured wrist.
Anyone who saw the bike before the accident or who witnessed the accident is asked to call Durham police's accident investigation unit on 0191 3752159.
