MORE than 147 students from a specialist sports college have achieved awards for sporting achievement.
FA Cup Final referee Jeff Winter presented prizes to pupils at Laurence Jackson School's Sports College celebration evening at Gisborough Hall.
The main award of the evening went to Russell Best, 14, who was sporting individual of the year after coming fourth in the National Schools Cross Country Final. The girls' under-14 football team, which reached the semi-final of the National Sports College competition, was crowned the team of the year.
A special award was made to Year 10 pupil and Ormesby Table Tennis Club member Paul Drinkhall, who is currently national table tennis champion at Under-15 and Under-18 levels in both singles and doubles, and is rated as number three in Europe.
